Access Statement for Sculthorpe Mill



Introduction

Sculthorpe Mill is a family run establishment. The Mill is an 18th century converted water mill on the river Wensum with large gardens. We aim to provide the highest standards of service to all our guests. We look forward to welcoming you to the Mill and making your stay an enjoyable one.
 

We offer the following services and facilities.

 
Pre-Arrival

• For assistance prior to arrival please contact us on 01328 856161 or email mail@sculthorpemill.com. We have a website: www.sculthorpemill.com and offer an online booking system.
• We are 2 miles from Fakenham on the A148 Kings Lynn road. The Mill is well signposted from the main road. The nearest train station is at Kings Lynn. There is also a regular bus service. Taxi information is available on request.

 
Arrival & Car Parking Facilities

• There is a large car park adjacent to the mill. Guests with mobility impairment can park in front of the mill, and also for guests to unload their suitcases etc. The car park surface and the area to the front of the mill has a gravel surface. There is a door bell situated on the right hand side of the disabled door. We are happy to make arrangements with you regarding your arrival over the phone or via email prior to your stay. 
• There is lighting either side of the front door and the disabled access door. The car park is also lit at night.

 
Main Entrance, Reception Area

• There are 2 front entrances to the building. The main entrance has double doors leading to a lobby area with a step down. The step down is 13cm. There is also a disabled access door to the right of the main entrance. There is no step and the door width is 34cm. This door is suitable for wheelchair access. We are happy assist anyone needing access through this door.
• Reception is situated on the left hand side of the main bar. The reception height is 108cm and has good lighting. After checking in guests are shown to their room and advised where breakfast is served.

 
Public Areas - Hall, Stairs, Landing, Corridors etc

• The mill is a 3 storey building and the public has access to the ground floor and the first floor. The third floor access is for guests staying at the mill and for staff. 
• There is no stair lift to the upper floors. All upper floors are reached by stairs. All flooring is carpeted including the stairs, with the exception of the first floor restaurant which has a wooden floor.
• There is no public telephone, but guests are welcome to use to main phone. Staff members are happy to advise on the use of the phone. All safety signs are clearly displayed. 
• Well behaved dogs are welcome in the bar areas during quieter times. Please ask at reception.
• The toilets are situated on the ground floor and are clearly signed.

 
Public Areas - Sitting room, lounges, lobbies etc

• All areas on the ground floor are carpeted. There is a small seating area comprising of a sofa, coffee table and casual chairs opposite the main bar.
• Provision for dogs - water bowls can be provided on request. Dogs can be walked nearby. Dogs are also welcome in our gardens. We request your dog is kept on a lead, and any deposits are cleared up and disposed of. Please ask at reception for a bag.

 
Public WCs

• The public toilets are situated on the ground floor. 
• The ladies toilet is situated to the left of the menu specials board. The door swings inwards and measures 26.5cm wide. There are 2 cubicles. The first cubicle doorway measures 21.5cm wide and is unsuitable for wheelchair access. The second cubicle doorway measures 25cm wide. There is an inset hand basin with a shelf. The height of this is 34cm. The height of the toilets is 17cm.
• The gents toilets are situated to the right hand side of the bar via an 18cm step up. The door swings inwards and measures 29cm in width. The toilet cubicle door measures 69cm in width. The height of the toilet is 18cm. There are two wash basins. The height of these is 32cm. The urinals are 27cm in height. The floor coverings in both toilet areas are non slip. All safety signs are clearly displayed.

 
Restaurant / Dining Room, Bar & Bar area. 

• The first floor restaurant has 13 tables and seats up to 52 people. The floor is a wood surface with a rug at the entrance to the hallway to the third floor. The restaurant has a low beamed ceiling with a maximum height of 187cm. Access to the first floor restaurant is via a carpeted staircase comprising 12 steps, each step measuring 20cm. There are handrails both sides of the staircase. The height of the dining tables is 29cm. The chairs are wooden with upholstered seats.
• There are four eating areas downstairs. Breakfast is usually served in the 'fire room'. Guests are informed of this upon arrival. High chairs are available on request. Any allergies or special dietary requirements are ascertained on arrival or during booking of accommodation.
• The whole building is non smoking.

 
Laundry

• There is a laundry service. Please ask at reception.

 
Conference & Meeting Rooms, Banqueting

• the mill has a Meeting room, which can be hired. Please contact the mill for further information

 
Bedrooms & Sleeping Areas

• All guest bedrooms are situated on the third floor and there is no access to wheelchair users.
• All rooms have ensuite bathrooms with baths and overhead showers. The baths are 59cm high. The flooring in the bathrooms are ceramic tiles. All bathrooms have complimentary toiletries. Towels and bathmats are provided. The toilet heights are 43cm. The bathrooms have low beams. The lighting is good. All basins have mirrors with overhead lighting.
• All bedrooms have TV's with remote control. There are telephones in all bedrooms. All bedrooms have tea making facilities. Fresh milk is supplied upon request. Room service is available. All bedrooms have low beams.
• A familiarisation tour is given on arrival.
• There are a total of six bedrooms. Four doubles, two of these can be converted into twin rooms, and two single rooms. One double room is a four poster room. All bedrooms have views over the river Wensum.
• Fire notices are on the back of the bedroom doors. Guests are made aware of these upon arrival, and also the location of the third floor fire escape.
• The bedrooms are serviced daily.
• Dogs are allowed to stay with prior arrangement.

 
Grounds and Gardens

• The mill has extensive gardens. The river Wensum runs through the garden. The garden also has a smaller stream as well. 
• The rear garden mainly comprises lawned areas and flower beds, with mature trees. There are many seating areas also.
• There is access to the rear garden from the mill or access can be gained from the large car park. The pathways are either gravel or concrete.
• The garden area at the front of the mill is mainly gravel. There is a small flight of steps down to a small grass area surrounded by water. There is also seating provided. Meals can be eaten outside, weather permitting.
• There are prominent safety signs in all areas.

 
Additional Information

• The building has a fire alarm. There are evacuation procedures and clear escape routes.
• The building is totally non smoking.
• We have background music in the public areas, which is unobtrusive.
• All signage is prominent.
• Staff is available for any assistance that is required.
• Mobile networks - depending on the network some are less accessible.
• Dogs are allowed in the downstairs bar areas during less busy time. 
• Dogs are allowed to stay with prior arrangement.
